New York State Theater No. 21 - Fanfare for a New Theater

Tonight we welcome audiences back to the New York City Ballet for the spring season! Playing in the background is “Fanfare for a New Theater” composed by Igor Stravinsky in 1964 for the opening ceremony of the New York State Theater. How cool is that, that this theater has its very own fanfare? The sweetest part is that Stravinsky dedicated it: “for George and Lincoln”. On opening night in April 1964, 2 trumpets played this 40-second fanfare standing on either side of the terrace!
